Conflict Scenes in Memoir Writing? Write Tough Memories in 3 Easy Steps

Sue Roupp, author of Memoir Writing in 6 Easy Steps, addresses the following topics in this session:

  1. Conflict. Each human being on the planet earth struggles at varying times in their lives. For some there are ongoing struggles like depression, addiction, divorce, job loss, immigration, language, disabilities etc.  Readers love conflict.
  2. Getting even. Nope. You cannot call people names, get retribution, or get even with people who wronged the writer. What can you do? Write the scene from your point of view (POV) as in “I saw…I knew…I experienced…”
  3. Reaction. How did you or those around you react to something that happened to you? Good or bad? What does matter? You survived whatever you endured no matter what others said or did.
