As writers we set goals, create outlines, and hold ourselves accountable to deadlines…but creativity demands non-linear thinking too! In this experiential workshop, we make space for fun, surprise and delight. Writers of all experiences and genres will find opportunity to grow their creativity in new directions, re-energizing their imaginations and filling the creative wells. Using the work of Kaizen-Muse founder Jill Badonsky, we will focus on qualities such as awareness, flexibility, playfulness and audacity, expanding our creative horizons and meeting New Muses along the way. In this session, writers will learn about the connections between creativity and sensory awareness and attention, the importance of reframing and flexible thinking in overcoming procrastination, perfectionism and other common blocks, the importance of play as a basic component of any creative endeavor, and the role audacity has in pushing us forward out of our comfort zones. An embrace of experiential learning focuses on three ways of knowing (writing, talking, moving) which they can take with them in their own practices as writers. And an examination of the importance of non-linear approaches in creative work, and how to remain open to surprise and inspiration at every stage of the process.
