Christine DeSmet is a UW-Madison writing coach, Master-class teacher, novel author and optioned screenwriter, and director of the Write-by-the-Lake Writer’s Workshop & Retreat, celebrating its 21st year in June 2019. She is among the coaches working with writers in the new Writers’ Institute Pathway to Publication program. Through the UW-Madison Continuing Studies Critique & Coaching Service, Christine works with writers year-round in all genres and types of fiction writing, including picture books, middle-grade, YA, and adult books in categories including literary/commercial, suspense, mystery, romance, science fiction, and fantasy. Christine writes the Fudge Shop Mystery Series (Penguin/Random House) set in Door County, Wis., a bestseller for Barnes & Noble. She is the author of the Mischief in Moonstone humorous romantic novella series from Writers Exchange Publishing, including a recently released Halloween story called When the Dead People Brought a Dish-to-Pass, and new-in-paperback When Rudolph Was Kidnapped. Christine teaches UW-Madison Continuing Studies online courses for new novelists and new scriptwriters wishing to get underway fast and sure. Her short script, The Stone Carver, written with Peggy Williams, was filmed in Fall 2018 in the Madison area by Living Storm Productions.
